Rosanna Bach

CH/UK

Rosanna Bach’s practice is rooted in a deep exploration of the ephemera of nature and the feminine psyche. Through the medium of analogue photography, etching and image based installations, Bach is reflecting on the relationship between nature and humanity, often by showcasing the intersection between dichotomies of light and dark, movement and stillness, and detachment and belonging. Her recent foray into an installation-based practice allows her to translate these transcendental experiences into the three-dimensional realm of an exhibition space.

Rosanna Bach (1990, Switzerland) currently lives and works as an Art Director in New York. Her work has been included in several group shows in New York, Miami and London, including Unconscious Lens at Bosi Contemporary (2014). She holds and a Documentary and Photojournalism degree from the International Center of Photography, New York. She was nominated to attend the prestigious Lookbetween Workshop award in 2014 and a residency at Gerson Zevi’s Land Art Road Trip across America in 2013 & 2014. The work she produced during this residency was subsequently shown in a group show, On the Road , at Leila Heller in New York (2014).

– (Aquel cuyo nombre no recuerdo)

We no longer rise and set with the sun, nor bow down to deities. Has man become master? What does he worship? After an exhaustive introduction into a disposable way of life – trash on the ground, trash in the trees, New York left me feeling disassociated with the earth and the sky, whom were calling me back. These works are an odyssey back to my roots. The self that speaks to the silence of the fields, and the shadows of the moon. In my photographs I play with long exposures and multiple exposures to channel elements of rhythm, texture, and movement, the breath of these scapes. I use self portraiture, to re-immerse myself in these settings, to become one with them. My pieces are a contemplation into value, co-existence and the many layers that construct this fragile life.
“Every day we wake up and create our world anew.” – ( He whose name I don’t remember.)
