My practice focuses on the very basics of photography: using light as an idea, as matter and material. This idea has taken an important role in my practice, both conceptually and technically. Therefore I like working with analogue materials, since they make me focus more during the process of a take.
In terms of representation I consistently find my work wandering within the form of landscapes and portraits. These traditional genres become an initial anchor from which to address other ideas. I think of them as genres wide and flexible enough to become something else: raging from a traditional approach to abstraction and even to a lack of a photographic reference, establishing connections with the plasticity of other media such as painting.

Since 2015 I have been working on the project Notes on Light and Landscape , a collection of images and artist books that capture the subtle changes of this ephemeral and immaterial phenomena, in specific geographical places and in particular periods of the year.

ESPECTRO [SPECTRUM] is a book that invites the reader to experience a contemplative gaze. Starting from the romantic conception that a viewer is necessary for a landscape to exist, this book emphasizes both that which is seen (the landscape) and the one who sees (the reader of the book).

The narrative of this book is constructed on the basis of a single image: a Finnish landscape made with a medium format film camera, which was then digitally processed. As a way to exercise the eye's memory, while the reader advances his visual route through the book, she discovers that she has been looking at the same landscape fragmented in the original color spectrum that composes the image, from the brightest to the darkest tones. And it is then that the contemplative act begins: to look and disarticulate this image until its most subtle variations in tone and color are apparent, even in an almost total darkness. In the words of José Luis Brea, "In no place the absolute silence of light, the black opacity of the world... In no place total darkness."

The word "spectrum" also refers to the idea of the specter that a light-based image leaves in our retinas after seeing it. Each color taken from the initial palette conserves the specter of the image from which it was taken. In this way, the viewer's gaze starts to adjust to the tone of each new image that is created and starts to distinguish subtle variations that arise form each color, just as our pupils adapt to the lighting conditions of a place.
