Dani Lessnau is a visual artist living in Brooklyn who works with the photographic medium to engage with ideas surrounding new feminist thought and its relation to vulnerability and transgression.   Her darkroom process is heavy in aspects of touch and physical intervention, which challenge the preconceived ideas of how the photograph should be captured and read.  She studied at the International Center of Photography in New York City and was recently awarded an honorable mention through the annual juried competition at Baxter Street Gallery.

Extimité addresses the blurry interpenetration of interior and exterior, both of the psyche and physical; as well as the pregnant, constantly fluctuating, undefined space between.  The boundary between the gaze of surveillance and that of intimacy becomes diffuse.

Inserting a pinhole camera into my body I subject the exposure of the film to the movement of my breath and viscera, surrendering any semblance of control.   This relinquishment of power mirrors vulnerabilities experienced in my intimate relationships; both with others and my body
